The Baile Govora resort has existed since 1887, after the discovery in 1881 of several springs whose waters contained iodine, sulfur and bromine - a combination that attracted the attention of the then Prime Minister, I.C. Bratianu. He saw the opportunity to develop a spa resort to compete with the most famous resorts in France, England, Austria, countries that had been practicing spa cures since the 17th century.

Palace-Spa-Center - electic art nouveau architecture
The eclectic architecture with art nouveau influences and neo-Romanesque inspired elements transform Romania's first spa hotel into a historical monument. The hotel was built by the French architect Ernest Doneaud, together with the engineers Bratescu and Pukliky, from 1911 to 1914.
The 365 gaps in the walls of the building symbolize the days of an entire year, and the hotel's east-west position allows the sun to shine into every room in the hotel on any given day. Currently, the spa center utilizes the same waters and the same therapies, but with more advanced equipment. The principles are the same, with the spa therapies, and with the help of the waters - which we use in both internal and external cures - the air in the spa park and the respiratory gymnastics exercises, here we heal sick people of any age, even infants with respiratory disorders.
