In Bhutan, Aman drew a map of the experience, a circuit of five lodges - Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang - designed to take you through the essential valleys of the kingdom, one by one, like a pilgrimage of tranquility.

The project was progressively opened in the 2000s and was completed in 2007when they opened the lodge in Bumthang. Since then, the Amankora "circle" has allowed for the first time a coherent, step-by-step exploration of Bhutanese geography and culture, with a red thread of identical services and aesthetics from one valley to the next.

Architecture by Kerry Hill it looks and feels like a reinterpretation of Bhutanese mountain houses: wood and stone, calm volumes, dosed lights, spaces that let the landscape breathe through every window.

It's a specific Aman aesthetic - linear, sober, attentive to local materials - but here, in the Himalayas, it takes on an almost monastic dimension, where daily gestures (hot tea, a lit fire, an evening bath) become rituals.

and treatments inspired by local traditions emphasize rituals with Bhutanese hot stone baths (menchu): water is infused with artemisiaThe river stones, reddened in the fire, are lowered into a separate chamber in the riverbed, releasing minerals and gradually increasing the temperature.

It's an ancient practice in Bhutanese villages, brought here in a refined version that complements the brand's signature massages, breathing sessions and quiet moments.

What sets Amankora apart from an isolated resort is precisely travel logic:

you can start your stay in Paro, climb up to Thimphu, descend into the Punakha valley, continue to the open plateau of Gangtey and end in the ancient temple country of Bumthang, leaving behind a route that alternates meditation and movement, ritual and knowledge, privacy and community.

Along the way, Aman teams can arrange cultural experiences such as astrological readings, visits to monasteries, hikes to the Tiger's nest or evenings with bows and drums, as authentically experienced in the kingdom's villages. In this choreography, the spa is not a separate room but a ritm: breathing with the footsteps of the guest, in every valley.

Official recognition confirms that beyond the beauty of the places, the system works

In 2024, Aman Spa at Amankora Paro Lodge has been designated "Bhutan's Best Hotel Spa" at World Spa Awards, an industry award that takes into account program quality, team excellence and guest satisfaction.

The same year, Amankora won the title "Bhutan's Leading Hotel" at World Travel Awards, validating nationwide consistency of service across the circuit. They are measurable benchmarks, and for anyone running a spa it shows that operational details - from training to aesthetic consistency to discrete team manners - turn over time into standard.

Each lodge has its own treatment room and team, but the protocols remain the same sensory signature; each valley has its own rhythm, but recovery, quiet and sleep times are preserved; each therapy integrates a cultural element - a hot stone bath, a local herbal tea, a moment of prayer or a walk to a lookout point - making care not a break from the journey, but the journey itself.

That's why, in Bhutan, Aman managed to turn a classic recipe for hospitality into a wellness journeywhere spa, road and culture confirm each other.
